Students must meet the
following for standards

Students must be 14
years / 8 months of age
by the beginning of the Segment I class.
(verification by birth certificate required).

Students must complete and pass two
different
course Segments for successful completion.
Requirements for passing Segment I are as follows:
24
hours of Classroom Instruction: Successful completion (80% or better) of the
State mandated written exam based on the information in the booklet “What
Every Driver Must Know”. A certified classroom textbook, on loan to each
student, is also an important part of the curriculum. Every class session
must be attended (make-up provisions available for an unavoidable absence).
Also
6 hours of behind-the-wheel (btw) instruction: Demonstration of satisfactory
proficiency of skills listed in the Michigan Department of Education
Performance Objectives. All 6 driving sessions will be scheduled around
classroom times and on week-ends, with 2-3 students per session, giving each
student their respective hour btw per session.
A
Certificate of Completion will be issued to each student upon course
completion, and is a necessary document to be presented to the SOS office
for obtaining a Level I Learner’s License.
Requirements for passing Segment II are as follows:
Attendance for all 6 hours of classroom instruction and successful
completion (80% or better) of the State mandatory written exam. Certificate
to be issued upon completion of classes.
Segment II Instruction shall be based on the information
in
the booklet “What Every Driver Must Know” and “The Driver Education
Curriculum Segment II” Instructor’s Manual produced by the Michigan
Department of Education.
